I am Roser Argemí, a freelance illustrator, specialized in children's books.
In the photo, I’m with Samia and Kiku, two characters that frequently appear in my illustrations. My
neighbour’s cat used to visit me every day. Little by little, it began to sneak into the drawings. That’s Kiku. The girl with braids has been part of my drawings for many years. I didn’t know her name. After reading Don’t Tell Me you’re afraid, a book about the Somali athlete Samia Yusuf Omar and her fight for her dream of running, I named her Samia, in memory of this courageous athlete who died trying to reach Europe via the Mediterranean Sea.
Through my work I seek to create a connection with the viewer, whether they are children or adults. Although I hold a degree in architecture from ETSAB, I have been working professionally as an illustrator in the publishing world since 2013. I mainly work with techniques like chinese ink, watercolor, colored pencils, and sometimes digital tools. I’ve published several works with some of the leading publishers in the country. The trick to being an illustrator? Never stop drawing, even as you grow up.
